PULSThis is the first part of a two-semester module (consisting of three parts) which lays the groundwork for all further coursework in linguistics. It aims to introduce students to the nature of language and the major domains of linguistic inquiry as well as to provide an understanding of basic concepts, principles and tools in the following areas: Phonetics, Phonology, Morphology, Lexical Semantics. There will be weekly exercises, mid-term quizzes and a final exam. Students are encouraged to acquire a copy of the textbook (see below) before the beginning of the semester. In case tutorials are offered for this course, see the bulletin board at the beginning of semester for times and places. It is strongly recommended that students attend one of these tutorials regularly.
