Education for Sustainable Development: Literary Texts, Teaching Materials, Tasks
UNESCO (2012), KMK (2016) and a growing number of researchers in TEFL have put forward the concept of âeducation for sustainable developmentâ, arguing that future generations require âmore integrative, problem-based and exploratory forms of learningâ (UNESCO, 2012, p. 5) so as to tackle global issues such as climate change, ecological challenges, sustainable and responsible ways of living and saving the planet. In this seminar, we are going to engage with the question of how English language teaching can enable future (global) citizens to grasp and deal with complex and interconnected issues through English language. We will explore literary texts, teaching materials, and design tasks so as to meet this challenge.
